Differences
between Reservoirs and Lakes
The following conditions
must be considered for an understanding of self-cleaning processes in drinking
water reservoirs compared to natural lakes:
The period of time the
water remains and accordingly the time in which nutrients sediment in the
form of particles is considerably shorter (0,1 to max. 10 years).
There is constant transportation
of material from the base of the in the direction where water is drawn
off , there are vertical and horizontal gradients.
The thickness and composition
of the sediment in reservoirs has other characteristics.
Comprehensive management
of water quantity is possible with respect to requirements imposed by water
quality (drawing off, inflows).
